Frequently Asked Questions
Herbal Intensives FAQs:
What should I do to prepare for the high altitude? Water, water, and more water. You will want to drink lots of water to prevent headaches and fatigue. We provide filtered water at the ranch. While the margaritas are quite tasty here in New Mexico, watch the amount of alcohol you consume, especially the first couple of days you are here.
What should I bring? Water bottle, sunscreen, sunglasses.
What should I wear? You’ll be in the forest, wear comfortable walking shoes, with closed toes and good traction. Clothing-wise, we recommend light layers as mornings can be chilly and afternoons can be warm. Long pants are preferable to shorts.
Will there be wifi or cell service? There is no cell phone service in the area, however, we do have a landline. Wifi is available in the classroom (and you can make Internet calls on your cell phone) however, we invite you to take your visit as a time to disconnect and reset.
Can I bring my animals? We ask that you leave your furry family members at home.
What about food? Each morning we will provide light snacks and for lunch, a delicious and nourishing meal with vegan and gluten-free options. Snacks, coffee, tea, and water will be available throughout the entire day. If you have any food restrictions or allergies, please plan to bring your lunch/snacks to ensure you have suitable food. Note that going offsite for lunch is not realistic, as we are remote and our extremely limited Pecos dining options have varying hours.
Can I stay at the ranch? To reduce the environmental impact on our land, we are not set up to provide on-site lodging, camping, or RV parking.
What does “for FIHM students or Foundations only” mean? Intensives with this notation are reserved for students working towards graduating our Foundations in Herbal Medicine course and have progressed through 70% of the course material.
What about COVID? New Mexico is leading the nation for COVID-19 immunizations. We are confident that our state will be fully open by summer. As always, we will follow both state and federal guidelines regarding small group gatherings at the time of our events.
